音読み (おんよみ): レイ

訓読み (くんよみ): つめ・たい、ひ・える、ひ・やす、さ・める

部首 (ぶしゅ):(にすい

What’s weird about this particular kanji is the strong discrepancy between the character in computer typography and the way it should look when written by hand.  While the stroke order in the animated gif above is correct, the character should look like this when you write it:

冷
Thank you http://www.nisk.jp for this image.  I can remove it if you want.

Meaning: cool, chill, cold (an object/person, not the weather)

Notes:

冷蔵庫

れいぞうこ
refrigerator

湯冷め

ゆざめ
feeling a chill after taking a bath

底冷え

そこびえ
a deep, penetrating cold

冷房

れいぼう
air conditioning, cooler

“This vehicle [sic] is done to weaken an air conditioner #2941” from Flickr member Nemo’s great uncle.  (Click image to enlarge.  Original image is here.)
