音読み (おんよみ): カ、ゲ

訓読み (くんよみ): した、しも、さ・げる、く・だる、お・ろす、もと

部首 (ぶしゅ):一(いち

Meaning: under, below, down, beneath, lower

This is a kanji to really pay a lot of attention.  If you are/have studying this in a Japanese language class, this will probably be one of the first kanji you learn, but you won’t get all the readings of it, probably just した.  But like its sister 上, it’s full of readings.  Drill them!

subterranean, underground, also: basement, cellar
