音読み (おんよみ): ドウ、パ
訓読み (くんよみ): わらべ
部首 (ぶしゅ):立 (たつ)

Meaning: juvenile, child



School child, school boy/girl.  Usually associated with those in elementary school.

I saw 童 outside of an elementary school on a sign warning drivers to watch for children.  I’d never seen this kanji before…

Additionally, I’ve discovered that Kappa uses this kanji.


kappa, a mythical water dwelling creature (learn more here).
I think this is the only time that 童 is pronounced パ.
