音読 み (おんよみ): ショ
訓読み (くんよみ): ところ
部首 (ぶしゅ): 几 (つくえ)

Meaning: place, behave, dispose, manage, deal with, sentence, condemn, act

Notes: I’m confused by the meaning of this kanji.  I decided to learn it because I kept seeing it this way:

そば処

そばどころ
Soba noodle place (restaurant)

The problem is that when I look at the definition, it seems to have much broader implications than just “place”.  With all those ramifications, it makes me wonder why we don’t see this:

そば所 (そばところ)

instead of the kanji above…?  I talked to a native Japanese speaker about this.  When I mentioned the convoluted English definition above, their response was “huh? It just means ‘place'”.

As for the other uses of 処:

処置

しょち
measures, action

処方

しょほう
medical prescription

処理中

しょりちゅう
manage, settle– one place you’ll see this is when a computer is progress bar, while it is “executing” or “processing” what you asked it to do.  But you see 処理 other places too:
